We are gifted with a box of photos, perhaps nearly forgotten in Mum’s attic, or a prized family photo album. All pertinent images go through a scanning process to digitize them for the BDA’s online portfolio.

Now the image is ready to upload to our archival site. But…one more step: a description accompanies all images so that people can search and find: by name, place, activity, event, even animals. This standardized archival description is called Metadata. It too requires time and talent.

If an image will be used for our library display, for calendars or other presentation purposes, it goes through this second screening process to clean and renew. The stunning enhancement of this image belies the time, the equipment and the skill that makes it so.
